COVID BOOSTER UPDATE
In line with the Government’s announcement, the NHS is aiming to offer every adult the chance to book a COVID-19 booster vaccine by the end of the year.
If you are eligible for your booster vaccination, please do not contact the practice as we need to keep our phone lines free for those who are trying to book GP appointments. We will contact you about your booster jab or alternatively you can visit nhs.uk/covid-vaccine or call 119 to arrange your appointment. There is lots of demand for appointments so if you can’t find a slot at suitable clinic, please keep checking back as appointments are updated regularly.
If you need to register yourself or someone you care for as housebound to make sure they receive their booster jab, please do contact your GP practice.

Primary Healthcare The Alice Medical Centre has received a Hidden Heroes award for Outstanding Performance during the Pandemic. The Hidden Heroes initiative was established to identify some of the excellent individuals and teams who would otherwise go without recognition, as well as try to highlight this incredible work that too often goes unnoticed.
The Alice Medical Centre won the award for the following nomination ‘’Worked relentlessly throughout the pandemic and also gave care home vaccinations and housebound visits – we are a small practice with 1 Dr, and nothing is ever too much for this team.

The awards were established by four Companies who are playing a key role in Supporting General Practice with the pandemic: Dene Healthcare, Gama Healthcare, Interface Clinical Services and Practice Index. Ricky Palacio of Dene Healthcare who presented the award was quoted as saying: ‘2020 was a hard year for most and sadly the amazing work being done in General Practice is too often overlooked, The Alice Medical Centre is exactly what we were hoping to identify and in some small way thank them for their contribution during the most difficult period in modern times. ‘
From 17 May 2021, people in England who have had a full course of the COVID-19 vaccine can demonstrate their COVID-19 vaccination status for international travel.

NHS APP IMPORTANT INFORMATION
You could now be asked to update your email address and phone number when you access digital services using NHS login if it varies from that held by the NHS. The ability to check your own contact information using your mobile device reduces the need to phone or come into practice to update your details.
You will be invited to update your details only if you have successfully used your NHS login to access digital services such as the NHS App a few times. Please try to take the opportunity to update your information - it is particularly important at the current time that we have your up-to-date contact details and this option will not automatically present itself for a number of months.
If you have a new number or email address and you don’t receive a notification digitally via NHS login, please call to update us as you usually would.

Coronavirus (COVID-19): what you need to do
Stay at home
You should only leave the house for one of four reasons:
- Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
- One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.
- Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
- Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.
Advice for people with severe health conditions
This week NHS services will be contacting people with a range of severe health conditions urging them to self-isolate for 12 weeks. We have also contacted all local patients with a generic message following the prime ministers advice yesterday (23 March). Please don’t panic if you have received the text and don’t have a severe health condition. Health advice will be confirmed by letter to those identified this week. There is no need to contact your GP about the message.

Text messages are being sent out from GOV.uk and NHS England please DO NOT ring the surgery to ask if you should self isolate if you don't have a medical condition these are being sent out to all patients even without a medical Long term condition due to Boris Johnson speech last night regarding Lock down.
Women that are pregnant are classed as High risk of the COVID 19 You are being asked to stay at home at all times and avoid any face to face contact for at least 12 weeks.
Vulnerable Groups instructed to Self Isolate
List of diseases and conditions considered to be very high risk:
- Solid organ transplant recipients
- People with specific cancers
- People with cancer who are undergoing active chemotherapy or radical radiotherapy for lung cancer
- People with cancers of the blood or bone marrow such as leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma who are at any stage of treatment
- People having immunotherapy or other continuing antibody treatments for cancer
- People having other targeted cancer treatments which can affect the immune system, such as protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors
- People who have had bone marrow or stem cell transplants in the last 6 months, or who are still taking immunosuppression drugs
- People with severe respiratory conditions including all cystic fibrosis, severe asthma and severe COPD
- People with rare diseases and inborn errors of metabolism that significantly increase the risk of infections (such as SCID, homozygous sickle cell)
- People on immunosuppression therapies sufficient to significantly increase risk of infection
- People who are pregnant with significant heart disease, congenital or acquired.
If you have received notification from the NHS advising that you may be at risk of severe illness from COVID-19 (Coronavirus) then it is important that you follow the advice in the letter. You will need to stay at home for the next 12 weeks and avoid face-to-face contact with other people unless it is absolutely necessary. This will be quite a challenge for most people as isolation and loneliness can have a negative impact on mental health. You can help maintain good mental health by keeping in regular telephone or online contact with your friends and family. Let them know how you would like to stay in touch and build your conversation time with them into your daily routine. Make sure to talk to them about how you are feeling and don’t be afraid to ask them for help when you need it. Local community groups, such as church groups, activity groups or self-help groups, can also be a great source of advice and assistance. If you can keep in contact with your local community groups by phone or internet (or join a new online group if you don’t already belong to one) make sure you do so. Finally, think of the other isolated people who might benefit from your support. If you can make a friendly phone call every now and then it might make all the difference to someone who has few opportunities to talk to others. Remember, it is important that you completely avoid physical contact with other people, but that you use phone and internet to remain as connected as you can.

Use this service if you have to stay at home because of coronavirus and you need a note for your employer.
If you have to stay at home but feel well enough to work, ask your employer if you can work from home. If you can work from home, you will not need an isolation note.
You can also use this service for someone else.
Due to the current situation with Coronavirus we have taken the difficult decision to close face to face appointment from Monday 16th March 2020.
If you have booked an appointment already you will be added to the telephone triage list and brought down to see us as needed.
This means you may still be seen by a clinician but everyone will have been screened prior to attending the surgery.

NEMS / OUT OF HOURS WHEN THE SURGERY IS CLOSED
Outside normal surgery hours (evenings, weekends and bank holidays) emergency cover for the practice is provided by NEMS Community Benefit Services Ltd Out of Hours service. The Out of Hours service provides medical care for patients that do not need Emergency Department Care. It is a service that is led by a range of clinical staff such as GPs, Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Emergency care Practitioners.
This service is for problems which cannot wait until the next available surgery. You will be required to provide full information about your problem and will be expected if required to attend Platform One Practice (based on Station Street, Nottingham) if necessary. Advice may also be given if attending for a face to face appointment is not deemed to be required.
During out of hours you should telephone the practice and instructions will be provided on how to contact NEMS.
For other general medical advice you can always contact the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it is not a life threatening situation.

Thursday Afternoon Update October 2019
As you are aware, The Alice Medical Centre has a clinic on a Thursday afternoon currently. We are looking to join 3 other practices for a reciprocal arrangement for a Thursday afternoon surgery cover. the other surgeries are The Medical Centre (Zulu Road) ,Springfield Medical, Riverlyn Medical Bulwell.
The four surgeries provide clinical cover on a rota basis for the group.
We will still be open on the days that clinics aren't held here at the surgery for collection of prescriptions etc.
We are holding a PPG meeting for any patient that's would like to attend on Wednesday 23rd October at 5.30pm here at the Surgery please feel free to pop in and voice your opinions

Offering Evening & Weekend Appointments bookable through your GP practice, patients registered at this practice are able to access additional routine appointments during evenings and weekends through the new GP+ service.
Appointments are available to see GPs, Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacists and Physiotherapists in a fully equipped accessible location on Upper Parliament Street in Nottingham City Centre.

Publication of Earnings
All GP practices are required to declare the mean (average) earnings for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.
The average pay for GPs working in Alice Medical Centre in the last financial year was £44,876.97, before tax and National Insurance. This is for one full time GP and one locum GP who worked in the practice for more than 6 months.
It should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice, and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice.

Medical Interoperability Gateway
From time to time it is helpful for us to be able to share information about your health and care requirements with other health organisations that are responsible for providing you with healthcare. Across Nottinghamshire we are introducing a new system called MIG (Medical Interoperability Gateway) which will enable us to make relevant medical information available from your GP record with other healthcare professionals who are providing you with direct care. The MIG allows for relevant information to be viewed by other healthcare professionals, however before your information is accessed you will be asked for your explicit consent. Examples of organisations that may access your GP health information include NEMS Out of Hours team, walk in centres and local A&E departments.
Sharing of information in this way is designed to ensure that the healthcare professionals looking after you have the most relevant information to enable them to provide you with the most appropriate care. The type of information shared is restricted and includes a summary of current problems, current medication, allergies, recent tests, diagnosis, procedures, investigations, risks and warnings – all this information is currently held in your GP system record.
We have automatically set up the sharing facility to allow your information to be made available via the MIG. Whenever a clinician from another healthcare organisation wishes to view your GP information via the MIG they will always seek your permission before doing so; if you say “NO” they will not be able to see any information and no data will be made viewable via the MIG.
If you have any concerns about the sharing of your information or do not want your information being made available via the MIG please speak to your practice who can advise accordingly.
The Alice Medical Centre are pleased to announce that we are now able to offer patients the ability to order repeat prescriptions via this website as well as booking appointments on line.
To register for the website please bring one form of photo ID (i.e. passport, driving license) and one utility bill showing your current address (no more than 6 months old) and reception will provide you with a user name and password.
